DAY 6: MAKEUP
Let’s say my level of makeup knowledge is so so basic. I have no idea how to successfully achieve a smoky eye or contour, and as it stands I’ve probably worn makeup for all of one day during lockdown and it’s never felt better so please don’t take makeup advice from me- i’m very much learning.
Makeup was one of the last areas of our home to move over to becoming cleaner. Maybe it’s because makeup is low on my agenda list anyway but, as I’ve switched to green beauty I’ve come to take more of an interest in it and really become excited and curious about what’s in the makeup I’m using and the fun and quirky ingredients that often make up green beauty!
Green makeup products I think are undoubtedly more money than the products I was buying before (see ya later dream matt mousse for £7.99) unless you’re making your own- and yes I did try- bronzer and cheek tint, and because of this, the most research has probably gone into this area as well as lots of messaging brands to get the right colour matches etc and advice and ordering samples. As with many of the cleaner companies, it’s not like you can just pop into a John Lewis and get them to colour match for you and if I’m spending more money, I really want to get it right!
It’s also been a journey trying to find products I both love and that come in good packaging- that is either made from recycled materials or easily recyclable. I have found a few companies who have incredible packaging- made out of paper with easy refills yet I have not got on with their makeup. Back to the drawing board I go.
Also just to say, I didn’t throw away makeup that didn’t suddenly fit the criteria this was the same with other products in the house. I’m still using up those products such as lipsticks from Charlotte Tilbury and an old mac eyeshadow! I didn’t want these to go to waste. Also, from the list below, I have managed to find a few of the products on ebay new second hand that have saved me alot of money as well as waiting til almost every other item was on sale…i love a sale!
Here are my favourites:
Foundation: Madara skin equal foundation
Madara are a company I have only recently discovered and I have been super impressed with them! They only use natural and organic ingredients and there’s a super cool ingredient glossary on their website as well as an ESG report. The foundation is SPF 15 and comes in a range of shades. It blends beautifully and lasts a long time and is easy to find your colour match with a virtual try on!
Concealer: Hynt beauty- duet perfecting concealer
This concealer was the winner of the international natural health beauty awards and came highly reviewed! I love that is comes in glass, contains aloe vera leaf and avocado oil and provides great coverage. It’s a small pot but it goes a long way- i’ve been using it for ages!
Mascara: Green People volumising mascara
I don’t have the longest lashes and have often found mascaras in the past easily clog my eyelashes up and I am left with stubby clogged eyelashes and who wants that! I am super happy with this find from a brand I already love and believe in. It contains some great ingredients such as vitamin E, Sunflower oil & Organic Beeswax.
Eyebrows: Ere Perez almond brow pencil and Savvy Minerals multi-tasker
Ere Perez is a brand I have recently discovered and they recently had a huge sale on their website that allowed me to invest in some makeup that I was in need of. I absolutely love the ingredients they use- such as quinoa- I feel like while they are 100% non-toxic there’s not a ton of info about their brand or practices on their website which I don’t love- so am going to do some digging. Aside from that, this brow pencil is the perfect shade for me and the brush helps give them some added volume!
Savvy Minerals is the new beauty products side of Young Living and their makeup contains essential oils. Savvy minerals say on their website that: “We’ve banned even more ingredients than the 1,328 prohibited by the European Union. We’ve banned more than 2,500 ingredients and even some “natural ingredients” other clean makeup companies use.” so their makeup is guaranteed to be clean! The multitasker is a powder, and works great as a brow filler, eyeliner or eyeshadow. I use this alongside the almond brow pencil if I want my eyebrows a little darker.
Eyeliner: Ere Perez jojoba eye pencil in dark brown
A range of colours available, made with jojoba to nourish your skin.
Eyeshadow: Ere Perez chamomile eye palette- gorgeous
I love this combination of eye shadow shades and while I rarely wear eyeshadow it’s perfect for special occasions. Formulated with chamomile for its extra soothing properties.
Lipstick: RMS Wild with Desire Temptation Lipstick
You only need to read the Our Philosophy page on the website to fall in love with RMS as a company. The founder came from a fashion and makeup industry background and saw the damaging impacts of daily exposure to the chemicals found in the products being used. RMS was founded on the back of that to create a product line as pure as possible. I LOVE this lipstick, I don’t love that Heppy rolled it up too high and smooshed it ahah but it’s still usable.
Highlighter: RMS living luminizer
I love how dewy and subtle this highlighter is, it’s a cream rather than a liquid and has lasted me AGES!
Bronzer: Ere Perez rice powder bronzer
Who remembers the days of bourjois chocolate bronzer? Well those days are no more! I love this product but only recently realised that it contains Mica, and I want to find out where this is sourced from as I know alot of mica is sourced unethically. I personally would prefer it with a little bit of a shimmer rather than being a flat powder.
Blusher: Ere Perez carrot colour pot in harmony and Savvy Minerals Blush- passionate
I love how these two work together, the carrot pot is perfect for a subtle dewy glow and the savvy minerals blush for something a little darker and more impactful!

pps. ‘Non-toxic’ is a claim in itself without regulation. When I use it, I am referring to products that don’t include ingredients linked to toxic responses (like hormone disruption, cancer, etc.) in humans.
