AD- More Than a Muslin: The Heart Behind Sustainabub

It was whilst I was pregnant with Heppy back in 2017 that I watched the documentary The True Cost. It exposed the horrors of the clothing industry, both for the people making the clothes and the impact production has on those who wear them. It asked something of me, and through tears as I heard the stories of those forced to work long hours with little pay, I decided then and there to break up with fast fashion. I wouldn’t buy from somewhere again unless I knew where it was made and how.

This was a big shift for someone who grew up shopping in Topshop and later found herself hooked on Zara’s latest drops. But I’ve kept that promise. Since then, I’ve tried to share on here and on Instagram the brands that are going above and beyond to make conscious choices and to do business in a way that doesn’t cost the planet, and its people. Sustainabub is one of those brands.

Sustainabub was started with the belief that there is a better way to do things, and with the hope of becoming a brand people genuinely trust, known for its values as much as its products.

The film didn’t just change what I put on my own skin. It seemed to sharpen something in me as a new mum. As I began to think about giving birth to my little girl, I felt such a strong desire to protect her newborn freshness and purity by only offering her pure things back! I started to rethink what was coming into our home. I knew I couldn’t control everything, but I learned what I could control. I placed real importance on GOTS-certified cotton, something the film explores because of the strict standards it sets for how fibres are grown, processed and produced. It wasn’t just about avoiding fast fashion anymore. It was about actively choosing brands built on better standards.

Why Sustainabub?

Sustainabub sell muslins and wraps. They use a signature blend of bamboo and organic cotton chosen for its softness, breathability and lower environmental impact. Every wrap and muslin is produced in GOTS-certified factories, meeting globally recognised standards for organic and ethical manufacturing. Their high contrast black and white prints are designed to support your babies developing vision in their early months.

It’s true that you can find many muslin brands on the market, but what stood out to me with Sustainabub is that the thoughtfulness runs through the entire brand. From packaging to production. Sustainabub offset every order through a partnership with Planet making deliveries carbon neutral and they plant a tree for every order through Ecologi, a simple but meaningful way of giving back and supporting ecosystem restoration. In a recent interview, I love that Sustainabub mentioned that they’re focus is never a few years infront but how they’re thinking for the next 30 years. This isn’t purpose washing for the sake of ticking a box- it’s truly their heart.

Sustainabub’s muslins have also received multiple awards: LovedByParents Platinum Award / Best Muslins 2025 – Organic & Sustainability Award/ Best Sensory Product – Organic & Sustainability Award.

Why muslins

In the early days as a new mum, I always needed one close by. One tucked down my top for leaks, one for spit-up, and usually another… also down my top for leaks. There really is no stage of early motherhood where a muslin isn’t essential. But they can truly be something SO much more than to catch sick, and since receiving these beautiful muslins from Sustainabub, it’s been lovely to rediscover just how many ways they fit into our everyday life and hold so many of our families memories. Here are a few ways they can be used at different stages.

With babies:

Tummy time: The muslin can be placed in your baby’s line of sight to encourage head lifting and visual tracking.

Playtime: Drape the muslins over play mats or use it as a backdrop for toys. Play peek-a-boo and use for role play.

Bonding moments: Wrap your baby during feeds or cuddles or have the muslin close by.

Creative storytime: Use it to create a cosy reading nook or as part of imaginative storytelling.

Cover: Use it to cover if wanting privacy when breastfeeding, or use it to wrap your baby in after a bath when the weather is warmer.

In our house now (with children aged 2–8):

Play: Wrapping dolls, making makeshift baby carriers, tying up “injuries” during games of doctors.

Connection: Playing peekaboo and having close when having cuddles.

Sleep: Attached to a dummy or simply something soft to snuggle when they’re sleeping.

Practical use: Changing mat. Cleaning up spills, having on hand when we’re out and about!

The muslins are available in multiple sizes and prints, they are beautifully soft, and comforting. If you’re trying to make more conscious choices and want a brand to truly trust and a muslin to make endless memories with take a look on the Sustainabub website.
